Teacher get $11Million offer in Hong Kong tutor war

Thanks to Modern Education, we know now that a star tutor can make a lot more money than a football superstar.

If Lam Yat-yan wants to, he can put David Beckham to shame in earnings and end up just a tad below HSBC chief executive Stuart Gulliver.

But that’s if he decides to heed a couple of full-page newspaper advertisements inviting him to join Modern Education for HK$85 million (US$11 million) a year.

Not that he is being stiffed by his present employer, Beacon College, which already pays him millions.

Modern’s jaw-dropping offer is a 125 percent premium to the HK$35.5 million the star Chinese language tutor is making at Beacon.

Apparently, Lam already has singlehandedly brought in 40 percent of Beacon’s turnover of HK$327.8 million this year with three months to go.

The open offer puts Beacon on the spot because it flags to investors how much it relies on a single teacher for revenue.

Lam’s contract with Beacon expires next summer.

Should Beacon decide to match Modern’s offer, it would mean at least a HK$40 million hit to its bottom line.

Because Beacon is in the process of listing on the stock exchange, it’s extremely important to make its highest earning teacher happy.

In a Facebook post last night, Lam appeared to turn down Modern’s offer and stick with Beacon.

“For a long time, the school and I have maintained a good relationship, and together, we have built an ideal teaching platform,” he wrote.

 

Instagram Model Dies After Tragic Supercar Crash

This is extremely sad. Bree Keller, a 22-year-old hairdresser and bikini model from the Northern Beaches suburbs of Sydney, is believed to be one of three passengers who died in a tragic car wreck in the city’s Central Business District on Saturday morning.

 

According to ViralThread: An emotional funeral has been held for Bree Keller, who died on whilst travelling in a $200,000 supercar. The men were unknown to any of her family. However, as investigations continue, it appears that the mystery may have been solved.

 

The bikini model, who had established a strong following on Instagram, tragically burned to death when the Nissan GT-R R35 that she was travelling in was involved in a high speed crash in Sydney.

 

 

Keller’s family have been left heartbroken by the incident, which claimed the “free spirited” model and hairdresser. “She was a free spirit. Very, very attractive girl, very funny, we just all loved her to bits,” her stepfather Peter Francis said. “She was a family girl, and we’re all just so devastated that we have lost her.

 


We’re just basically waiting for Briana to walk through the door because we can’t believe it. She was full of life. It’s just a waste, an absolute waste,” he said. “It was just a tragic mistake.”

 To add insult to injury, Keller’s family were left clueless as to why the 22-year-old was even in the car. “We have no idea how she became to get in that car,” Mr Francis said. “We don’t know any of the people in that car… she didn’t know them either. We’re just at a loss.”

People Are Freaking Out After Clowns Show Up For ‘It’ Screenings

Didn’t we already deal with people showing up as clowns last year!

 

According to LadBible: As the hype surrounding Stephen King’s movie adaptation of It continued to build before its highly anticipated release, an offer was made to clown enthusiasts that they could dress up as Pennywise for a premiere in America.

 

The Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas, is hosting a clown-only screening of director Andrés Muschietti’s version of the horror flick. But those who can’t make it to Texas have dressed up anyway and attended their local cinema to see the movie.

 

The only problem is, is that it’s freaking out everyone else not in a creepy clown costume. Chris went to see the movie and was a bit taken aback when he walked in.

Darren Sproles Tore His ACL AND Broke His Arm On The SAME PLAY And Yep, That Looked Painful

It isn’t often that in the matter of just 8 seconds a person can both tear their ACL AND break their arm, but Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles managed to somehow do exactly that in Sunday’s game versus the Giants.

 

During the first half of the game, Sproles took the handoff and ran to the left side of the line when as he tried to turn the corner he was met HARD and spun around by Giants safety Darian Thompson. Trainers then attended to Sproles on the field and he was able to leave the field under his own power, but was seen holding his right arm as he walked off.

Today, Adam Schefter reports that Sproles not only broke his right arm on the play, he also tore the ACL in his left knee.

It is assumed that this will end the season for Sproles who had previously hinted that this might be his final season before retiring.

The LA Chargers Are Covering Up Empty Seats With Tarp In NFL’s Smallest Stadium

 

The Chargers are currently playing in the smallest NFL stadium in the Stubhub Center in L.A. as they wait for their own stadium to be built. but apparently the team is having trouble selling out the 27,000 seat soccer stadium for their games.

Odell Beckham Jr. Appears To Dislocate Finger, Gets It Popped Back Into Place On Live TV

 

In the second quarter of today’s Giants-Bucs, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. appeared to dislocate his finger after an incomplete pass.

 

Beckham went to the sideline where trainers feverishly tried to put to pop his finger in place.

 

Of course, the Fox cameras had to zoom in on Beckham’s finger while everything was going down on the sidelines.

Paris Whitney Hilton. What can I say that hasn’t been said? It’s been around 14 years since 1 Night in Paris was released, which is 100% coincidentally also about how long it’s been since Hilton and Nicole Richie starred in that Fox reality series The Simple Life.

Listen, we loathe The Big Bang Theory as much as anyone (well, except for maybe this guy), but we love one of its stars Kaley Cuoco. It’s hard to reconcile in our minds, but we’ve somehow managed thus far.

 

We just can’t help it. Anytime she appears on our TV screens or computer monitors we’re just drawn to her. Is it her good looks? Sure. Is it her sense of humor? Definitely. Is it her seemingly complete lack of inhibitions and honesty? No doubt about it. It’s all of those things and more.

So when she appears on late night talk shows like she did Thursday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live that’s some automatic must-watch TV. As usual, Cuoco did not disappoint, sharing some very funny stories about her life, told only as she can.

 

Her first story involves an awkward encounter she had when she was stopped by TSA at the airport and got busted for having not one, but TWO wine openers in her

carry-on luggage.

“She, like, takes it out and I’m like, oh my God, I’m going to be on a no-fly list,” joked Cuoco.

 

Her excuse? “Here’s the thing. I just like alcohol and, apparently, I needed to be very prepared.” Is it any wonder we’re such big fans?

 

 

Cuoco’s second story involves a photo of a giant swing she has INSIDE her house. Not only does she make a tremendous case for doing such a thing she also explained what her interior designer said when she told him she wanted it. Guess what he thought she meant when she said she wanted a swing in her house?

 

 

Her third discussion was about her show The Big Bang Theory. You’re welcome to skip it, but she basically just discussed returning after all the speculation that the show was done and also talked about some of the gifts that the cast buys for their crew during the holidays. That part was actually pretty good.
